Cedes Place Eats & Sweets: Reviews & Ratings

Cedes place is off the beaten path. On Hooker street near the JSU campus it’s easy to miss. Blue and white signage in an older strip mall/parking lot is your signal. Inside is a sparse, but reasonably clean restaurant with sights and sounds of home cooking and more. The menu is limited, but there are more items not listed. Today you had the option of fried chicken, baked chicken, turkey necks, red beans and rice, pork chop, catfish, pan trout and you always have the option of burgers, fries, wings and birria tacos. The fried chicken is good. A crispy leg and thigh combo, dropped to order it sizzles and pops while you wait. Sides were dressing with cranberry sauce and candied yams. It was Thanksgiving in March! Try the sweet potato cornbread muffin. Thank me later. The red beans and rice were seasoned and had a mixture of sausage and turkey meat. Just the right amount of whole beans and mashed beans. It was real. Lima beans and green beans for sides. They were what you’d expect. The roll was a they-made-it soft roll. Dessert was pull apart cinnamon roll. It was huge. Warm, soft, yeasty and crumbly on top with sweet icing. This was good. There are a few other dessert options. To drink is kool aid, lemon aid or try the combo known as “Jungle Juice”. It has more than a touch of sugar! Soft drink cans/bottle are in a refrigerator in the dining room. Friendly service. It is not fast food. Fried Chicken and burgers are made to order. Allow sufficient time. There are 3 tables in the place. 2-four tops and 1 2-seater high top. Most orders are to go. Give this place a try.

Everybody already knows this young lady can COOK. No question about that(also the jungle juice is !) I was in her restaurant the other day at lunch time and she was helping someone who had never been there before. She had questions and needed a lot of extra help. The owner was so patient with her even with the line building up behind me. She greeted us all while still making that lady feel most important. And she called someone from the back to help the rest of us. She was even patient with her worker who was seemingly confused for a second. I just want to commend her on her SERVICE because food aside, that's 90% of the experience. So hats off to her for being a decent human being.!

I HAD to do a review. All one ever hears is Jackson this, Jackson that...but baby if your grandma or mama is deceased and she could cook...hunni/sir your grandma's Spirit is at CEDES PLACE! One's traditional southern food is not traditional here! I've FINALLY found me a down home, affordable, friendly SOUL FOOD restaurant!

The customer service is very southern hospitality & the food is good traditional southern soul food. I have had the turkey leg dinner, pot roast dinner, catfish plate & burger plate. My favorite are her burgers (seasoned just right), the best in town. Jungle juice (koolaid fruit punch mixed with lemonade) is really good. Not a fan of the pull apart cinnamon roll.

I went for the first time today and the food was delicious! I ordered fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and dressing. I ate every single crumb! The service was spectacular. Cedes was so friendly and down-to-earth. My order was hot and fresh. I highly recommend this place!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visited Cede’s Place Eats & Sweets in Jackson, MS on a Thursday around 4:30 PM—just before closing at 5. Even though I came in late, the team was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the daily special: baked chicken with rice and gravy. It was flavorful, well-seasoned, and hit the spot. I also added a piece of fried catfish, which was decent, and one birria taco that was packed with flavor—definitely recommend grabbing more than one next time. Unfortunately, they were out of mac and cheese and candied yams by the time I arrived, but that just means I’ll have to come earlier next time. Looking forward to trying those sides because if they’re anything like the rest of the food, I know they’ll be worth it. The customer service stood out—very kind folks who make you feel like you’re at home. There was plenty of parking, and the location is easy to find. If you’re in the area and craving soulful comfort food with a side of good vibes, this spot is a must-try. Tip: Come earlier in the day to get the full selection—popular sides go quick! Cede’s Place – Where flavor feels like home.

What truly stands out is the made-to-order fried chicken, sizzling upon request with a golden, crispy crust that yields juicy, tender meat beneath. Pair it with traditional sides like dressing with cranberry sauce and candied yams, evoking the warmth of Thanksgiving in mid-March. The sweet potato cornbread muffin is an understated delight, a perfect balance of sweetness and texture that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

The red beans and rice at Cedes Place are a soul food staple elevated by a harmonious mix of sausage and turkey meat. The careful ratio of whole to mashed beans reveals thoughtful preparation, showcasing a dish bursting with seasoning and hearty authenticity. Sides such as lima beans, green beans, and soft, fresh rolls round out the meal with comforting familiarity. For dessert, the pull-apart cinnamon roll is a showstopper—warm, soft, and fragrant with cinnamon, topped with sweet icing that melts blissfully in the mouth.
